About Us

At Nova, we want all our students to flourish academically and personally in an aspirational and supportive environment. Our school ethos is deeply rooted in our ‘DISC’ principles of Drive, Integrity, Scholarship and Contribution. As our students develop these values during their time with us, they move towards adulthood, better prepared to take on the challenges they will face.

Rated as ‘good’ by Ofsted in February 2017, inspectors praised our “impressive” drive for improvement, highlighting a range of strengths, including the quality of teaching, learning, assessment and behaviour. At Nova, we maintain the highest academic aspirations for our students whilst providing them with the wider opportunities they need to fully contribute to society as adults.

Our knowledge rich curriculum ensures students are challenged and supported to achieve their own aspirations and meet the high expectations of our expert teachers.

Our Ethos and Values

Developing the Best in Everyone

Everything that we do at Nova Hreod Academy is centred on the development of our four DISC values which are underpinned by United Learning's Framework for Excellence. These form a pathway to all-round success: excellence in academic achievement and excellence in ethos, character and culture.

Drive

We are ambitious, hardworking and determined, seeking, continuous improvement. We bring out the best in everyone so that everyone shines. We break down barriers to achieve what may not previously have thought possible. We are laser sharp in our approaches to learning, so that everyone can make exceptional progress and attain high levels of achievement.

Integrity

We are polite, honest, trustworthy and kind. We are respectful to each other and ourselves. We support and challenge one another because being helpful to each other makes us better as a team and develops our character as individuals. Every day we endeavour to be a better version of ourselves and to bring out the best in each other.

Scholarship

We learn about, debate and apply powerful knowledge. We deliberately practice, are curious and keen to learn. Our teachers are experts who have carefully sequenced the knowledge they teach, check we are developing our understanding and give us feedback which we use to build on our own expertise. We use routines, build habits and develop behaviours which make us successful.

Contribution

We participate, giving 100% to the opportunities and challenges we are presented with, inside and outside of our classrooms. The Nova experience, enables us to contribute and take on leadership roles in our school, our community and the wider world.

Working for us

If you're searching for your next teaching post, why not contact us now? You'll be working at a great school and be part of a friendly, helpful team. We're always interested to hear from enthusiastic, committed teachers!

United Learning

United Learning is a group of schools which aims to provide excellent education to children and young people across the country. We seek to improve the life chances of all the children and young people we serve and make it our mission to bring out the best in everyone – students, staff, parents and the wider community. We are uniquely united across both the state and the independent sectors; we make learning and improvement our focus. Together, we are one of the country’s largest education providers, currently educating over 30,000 students and employing over 5,500 members of staff including over 2,500 teachers.

We provide a broad education, which prepares young people to progress in learning and to make a success of their lives. We focus sharply on the evidence of what makes it more likely that young people will progress and succeed, apply that to our practice and continue to learn and develop our schools. We make it a priority to provide teachers with excellent professional support and development, so that every child receives an excellent experience.

Through being a group, we can offer more to both staff and young people that any single school could offer alone. The growing range of outstanding group-wide activities that we can provide will mean that more young people will have truly exceptional and inspiring experiences. Already, we believe that our group contains the most developed relationships and practical interaction between independent and state schools in the country, creating benefits for all the schools involved.

Our Ethos and Values

Our approach is underpinned by a sense of moral purpose and commitment to doing what is right for children and young people, supporting colleagues to achieve excellence and acting with integrity in all our dealings within and beyond the organisation, in the interests of young people everywhere.

We summarise this ethos as The Best in Everyone. This ethos underpins our core values:

  •  Ambition – to achieve the best for ourselves and others
  • Confidence – to have the courage of our convictions and to take risks in the right cause
  • Creativity – to imagine possibilities and make them real
  • Respect – of ourselves and others in all that we do
  • Enthusiasm – to seek opportunity, find what is good and pursue talents and interests
  • Determination – to overcome obstacles and reach success

As a single organisation, we seek to bring together the best of independent and state sectors, respecting both traditions and learning from each. We believe that each of our schools is and should be distinctive – each is committed to developing its own distinctive strengths and identity while sharing our core values as institutions which promote service, compassion and generosity.

This ethos is our expression of our Christian roots, in schools which are fully inclusive and both welcome and respect students and staff of all faiths and none.
